CEIP provides financing for up to 100% of the project costs up to $50,000. The interest rate for Canmore residents is 2.7% (fixed).
Repayment is through your property tax bill. Unlike a typical loan, CEIP financing is tied to the property, not the property owner. If you sell your home, the new owner assumes responsibility for repayment.
Repayment terms are based on the effective useful life (EUL) of the eligible upgrades, up to a maximum of 20 years. The EUL is the average number of years the upgrade will provide energy savings.
CEIP finances upgrades such as windows and doors, insulation, high efficiency furnaces and water heaters, air source heat pumps, and solar photovoltaic installations. The Alberta Municipalities website details all eligible upgrades and their Effective Useful Life (EUL).
A $500 incentive is available for completed CEIP projects in Canmore, while funding lasts.
CEIP participants can also apply to the Town of Canmore’s Residential Solar Incentive program, if timelines align. If you are selected for a solar incentive, it will be applied to the CEIP financing instead of being paid directly to you.
Alberta Municipalities has been appointed by the provincial government as the centralized administrator of CEIP on behalf of all cities and towns. Alberta Municipalities staff manage the application and agreement process and work directly with residents and contractors.
To be eligible for financing, your upgrades must be completed by a CEIP Qualified Contractor. Alberta Municipalities maintains a searchable CEIP Qualified Contractor Directory. If not currently listed, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, energy auditors, window, insulation, solar installers and other contractors can sign-up to become a CEIP Qualified Contractor.
Participants must be the legal owner of an existing single or semi-detached house, row house or townhome that is occupied on a full-time basis.
Applicants must five years of property tax history without arrears and be in good standing with the municipality (utility payments, permit and bylaw requirements, etc.). If you’ve recently moved to Canmore, tax payment records from other municipalities can be provided to meet the five-year requirement.
Additional eligibility requirements are detailed in the Terms and Conditions.
The 19-page Terms and Conditions contains the details and requirements for Canmore’s CEIP, from eligibility to agreement clauses and penalties for non-payment. It is important information that all applicants need to be aware of. Please read it before applying.
