A water meter is required for all water use in Canmore, including bulk water from a fire hydrant. As fire hydrants are connected to the Town’s potable water supply, it is crucial for public health and safety that proper operational procedures are followed. The following outlines what you can expect during the water meter rental process, and the sequential steps required.

Rental Process:

  • Check Availability:
  • Pay Security Deposit:
    • Submit the security deposit to the Town.
    • Visit the Civic Center front desk to pay be cash, cheque, debit or credit card, or call 403.678.1500 to pay by credit card.
  • Submit Documentation:
  • On-Site Meeting:
    • EPCOR will arrange to meet with you on-site to provide the rented water meter and offer an orientation on proper hydrant and meter use.
  • Post-Usage Procedure:
    • Once finished using the meter, contact canmorelocates@EPCOR.com
    • EPCOR will meet you on-site to inspect the meter and hydrant(s) used and record the total water consumption.
  • Final Steps:
    • The Town will:
      • Issue a refund of the security deposit if the meter and hydrant(s) were undamaged.
      • Issue an invoice for water consumption.

Please adhere to these steps to ensure a smooth rental process.

Water and Wastewater

Water and Wastewater utility operations for the Town of Canmore are provided by EPCOR Water Services Inc. under the terms of a performance based Utility Services Agreement. This agreement encompasses the full spectrum of utility operations including:
  • Water Distribution and Treatment
  • Utility Rates
  • Wastewater Collection and Treatment
  • Biosolids Management
  • Storm Water Drainage
  • Meter Reading, Billing and Account Management

Water to the Town is supplied by two main sources- a groundwater aquifer at Pumphouse 1 and the Rundle Forebay at Pumphouse 2.  Canmore also provides water to our neighbors in the MD of Bighorn.

Canmore is serviced by a single wastewater treatment plant. The plant includes primary filtration, biological aerated filtration for secondary and tertiary treatment, and UV disinfection prior to discharging to the Bow River.
