Sensory-Friendly Toys Together is a drop-in child development designed specifically for caregivers and children ages 0 – 6 who can benefit from a low sensory environment.

Lights will be dimmed and sensory toys such as fidgets and headphones will be provided. This is an open space to play, explore, and socialize with others. Toys are provided to help children learn through free play, to encourage imagination and creativity, and to develop fine and gross motor skills. Families may join and leave at any point during each session.  

What to bring: Any personal items such as snacks, water, diapers, toys etc. 

Note: This is a parented program and caregiver supervision of children is always required.

  • Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:45-9:30 a.m.

Stroller Strides: Walk & Connect is a program where parents come together for a nature walk. It’s a chance to connect, stay active, and enjoy quality time with your little ones. This program will be facilitated by a Family Connection Centre staff member who will be available to share optional child development resources.

Strengthen your parent-child bond, get outside and move while building friendships. Let’s stride together! 

Equipment Needed: Stroller, weather-appropriate clothing and any personal items such as snacks, water, and diapers. We will be walking along a mostly shaded pathway, bathrooms are available at the start, mid-point and end of the walk. 

Note: Program is subject to cancellation due to extreme weather conditions. 

Program Dates: Thursdays, May 22 – October 2 from 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. 

Location: Meet on the lawn in front of the Family Connection Centre *please note this location change!

Indigenous Cultural Learning Workshop: Parfleche-making, hosted in partnership with the Îyârhe Nakoda Youth Program for National Indigenous History Month.
4 – 6 p.m. | Canmore Civic Centre Classroom (902 7th Avenue)

Learn how to make your own parfleche-inspired decor piece while exploring the cultural significance, traditional techniques, and historical uses of rawhide among the Îethka Nakoda people. Open to youth ages 12+ and families.

National Indigenous History Month Celebration

Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Location: Civic Centre Plaza, 902 7th Avenue, Canmore

To recognize National Indigenous History Month, the Town of Canmore has partnered with many groups to create programming throughout the month of June. Learn more: canmore.ca/NIHM

The Town of Canmore will be hosting a National Indigenous History Month Cultural Celebrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Civic Centre Plaza.

  • Tipi raising
  • Traditional drumming and dancing
  • Feast
  • Workshops
  • Indigenous Market hosted by Authentically Indigenous

This is a free event. Bring your family and friends to a space where we can learn, celebrate, and come together in the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth.

Canada Day Parade

Time: 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm Location: Downtown Canmore

We will be celebrating with our annual parade between 12pm – 1:30pm on Tuesday, July 1st down Fairholme Dr. and Main St. Vehicle access to downtown will be impacted due to road closures on July 1st between 10am – 2pm, with no vehicle access between these times to impacted areas. We encourage you to plan ahead and walk, bike, or Roam.

Toys Together is a drop-in child development program for caregivers and children ages 0 - 6. This is an open space to play, explore, and socialize with others. Toys are provided to help children learn through free play, to encourage imagination and creativity, and to develop fine and gross motor skills. Families may join and leave at any point during each session. Each day will finish with a circle time session with songs and stories. 

Note: This is a parented program and caregiver supervision of children is always required. Space is limited.

Stroller Strides: Walk & Connect is a program where parents come together for a nature walk. It’s a chance to connect, stay active, and enjoy quality time with your little ones. This program will be facilitated by a Family Connection Centre staff member who will be available to share optional child development resources.

Strengthen your parent-child bond, get outside and move while building friendships. Let’s stride together! 

Equipment Needed: Stroller, weather-appropriate clothing and any personal items such as snacks, water, and diapers. We will be walking along a mostly shaded pathway, bathrooms are available at the start, mid-point and end of the walk. 

Note: Program is subject to cancellation due to extreme weather conditions.
