Taxis
To operate a taxi cab a person must hold a valid and current Taxi Cab Driver's Licence issued by the Town of Canmore.

All applicants must have a Class 4 Alberta Drivers Licence.
New applicants must obtain a Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable Sector check from the Canmore RCMP detachment prior to application.
- We recommend applying for this record check three weeks prior to the date you intend to apply for a Taxi Cab Licence
- The RCMP charges $35 for a Criminal Records Check, unless fingerprinting is required for a Vulnerable Sector check which is an additional $50.
- Those seeking a Criminal Record check are required to bring two pieces of identification. One must have a photo and a current Bow Valley address

Once an applicant has the required documents, they may book an appointment to apply for a licence by contacting Municipal Enforcement.
Appointment Details
- Appointments can be booked from Monday to Friday.
- Licence cost is $50 per year.
- Applicants will complete a multiple-choice examination to satisfy they have read Sections 18 through to 30, 37, 38 & 40 of the Town of Canmore Taxi Bylaw.
- Examination requires 80% pass mark.
- Applicant may only take the examination once every 48 hours.
- Examinations is only required to be done once during tenure as driver unless a licence is expired for more than three months.
- Applicants will be required to have their picture taken for the Taxi Cab Driver card.
- Applicants will sign a statutory declaration of acknowledgment they have met the requirements to obtain a Taxi Cab Driver's Licence.
All applicants must have a Class 4 Alberta Drivers Licence.
Applicants for renewals may attend the Municipal Enforcement Office to fill out a waiver of the Vulnerable Sector Check if they have already completed and submitted one in the past. If this is the case, only a standard Criminal Record check is required.

If not already completed at a prior application appointment, drivers will be required to complete and pass a Taxi Driver Examination.
Applicants will be required to read certain sections of the Canmore Taxi Bylaw and sign a statutory declaration of acknowledgment.
A criminal record check is required to apply for your licence. Prospective drivers cannot have any criminal code convictions in the past five years or any outstanding criminal charges before the courts.
