Host A Community Event

Events hosted on Town of Canmore property require an event permit. Town of Canmore venues include Town buildings, parks, trails, parking lots, streets, and roads. The Community Event Committee reviews all applications. Explore information on deadlines, how to apply, and frequently asked questions below.

Event Application Deadlines

  1. For events happening each year between May 1 to Oct. 31, 2024, the deadline to apply is Jan. 8, 2024.
  2. For events happening each year between Nov. 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025, the deadline to apply is June 24, 2024.

Applications will still be accepted up to 60 days before the event date, however, priority is given to applications received before the deadline.

  1. Complete the application form
  2. Email the completed form to eventapplication@canmore.ca 
  3. The Community Event Review Committee will review all applications received. Groups will be notified about the status of their application within 6 weeks after the deadline.

To obtain a Community Event Permit from the Town of Canmore, a Special Event business licence is required by the event organizer whether for-profit or not-for-profit. This is to cover all business activity (i.e. vendors, service providers, etc.) associated with the event.

This business license is optional for organizers of private events held at a Town of Canmore facility. If a private event organizer does not purchase such a licence, each vendor and/or service provider will require a Vendor business licence.

All events hosted on Town of Canmore Property are required to provide proof of insurance for a minimum of $5 million in liability with the Town of Canmore listed as the additional insured. No event will take place without having provided their proof of insurance. 

Frequently Asked Questions

Any disruptions to roads, sidewalks or parking spaces will require a Special Event Road Use Permit Application to be submitted with the event application. Advertising, neighbour notices and certified flag persons may be required and the expense of the event host.

Alberta Health Services must provide permits / approve events with food vendors, or other food service. Click here for more information. A copy of your permit/approval must be submitted to the Town of Canmore’s Events Permitting Coordinator prior to the event.

A liquor license is required for any event in which alcohol is being served or sold. Click here for more information. A copy of your license and an Alcohol Management Plan must be submitted to the Town of Canmore’s Events Permitting Coordinator prior to the event.
