Palliser Trail Area Structure Plan Update

Council was presented with a draft Area Structure Plan (ASP) for the Palliser Trail area. The draft plan presents a vision and blueprint to move housing forward in the area and was developed with feedback from the community. Facilities Use Decision Framework – Existing Fire Hall

Council was presented with a framework that provides a transparent and consistent approach to evaluate how space requests in Town-owned facilities are prioritized. Administration used the framework to guide the future use of the Fire Hall, which resulted in the recommendation to allocate available space to the Protective Services, Facilities, and Public Works departments. The Town will also seek expressions of interest from organizations to determine the most appropriate use of the remaining 20% available floor space in the facility.


Bylaw 2023-21 -
Silvertip Area Structure Plan Amendments

Council gave first reading to Bylaw 2023-21 that contains minor housekeeping amendments to the Silvertip Area Structure Plan (ASP) to adjust the plan’s boundary to reflect current planning initiatives and ensure consistency in the administration of the plan. Bylaws 2023-20 and 2023-28 - Amendments to CPC Authority

Council gave first reading to a pair of bylaws, which will provide clarity on what type of Development Permit applications are referred to Canmore Planning Commission (CPC) for decision. A public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 5, 2023. For details, visit Bylaws Pending Approval: Town of Canmore


Land Use Bylaw Amendment 2023-24 – 205 Stewart Creek Rise

Council gave first reading to Land Use Bylaw Amendment 2023-24, which proposes to redesignate 205 Stewart Creek Rise to R2A-SC Residential Family Low Density District. This will allow Canmore Community Housing to achieve its development goals for the provision of Vital Home units at the site. A public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 5, 2023. Council also:

  1. Approved a budget increase for a large item collection vehicle.
  2. Updated the Emergency Management Bylaw, to add two members of Council and the Mayor to the Emergency Advisory Committee.
  3. Heard an update from the Homelessness Society of the Bow Valley on their winter overnight shelter program.
