What’s Happening

We know that the Rundle Forebay is a favourite spot for many to take the paddle board out on a nice summer day. This year, from July 28-Sept. 26, TransAlta is conducting essential routine repairs to the Spray Canal to the long-term safety, efficiency, and reliability of the Spray Hydro facility.

The scope and timing of this essential repair project is out of our control, but we are working closely with TransAlta to complete the maintenance work efficiently while limiting the disruption to the community.

What You Need to Know

During construction, the water level in the canal will be lowered and many sections of the canal will be dry or stagnant. TransAlta does not recommend recreational and commercial activities in the Rundle Forebay.

To ensure uninterrupted access to clean water, we will temporarily shift our water source to the downtown pumphouse, which draws from groundwater.

Mandatory outdoor water restrictions will be in place throughout the duration of this project to ensure that there is enough water to meet our essential needs, including water for drinking and fighting fires. The restriction will start at Stage 1 and will go into place on July 14.

What You can Do

  • The Rundle Forebay is a source of drinking water. Due to anticipated low water levels, please do not swim, wade, or let dogs swim in the water since higher concentration of contaminants may strain our water treatment capacity.
  • Take action when outdoor water restrictions are declared.
  • Find out what water restriction stage is in place. Outdoor water restrictions will be announced through local media outlets, our website, and social media.
  • Understand how and when you can use water outdoors. Depending on the water restriction stage, understand what mandatory actions to take.

Stay informed.
