2024 Administrative Financial Report

Council met as the Finance Committee this morning, and approved allocating the 2024 operating surplus of $1,856,092 into the following reserves:

  1. $900,000 to the Tax Stabilization Reserve
  2. $956,092 to the General Municipal Capital Reserve

Downtown Business Improvement Area Tax Rate Bylaw 2025-09

Council approved the Downtown Business Improvement Area's 2025 budget and passed the Tax Rate Bylaw for 2025. Both items are required each year by the Municipal Government Act.

Short-Term Rental Enforcement Fund Budget Approval

The Town of Canmore’s submission to the Government of Canada’s Short Term Rental Enforcement Fund (STREF) was successful, we will receive $1,109,885 over two years to assist in short-term rental and primary residence compliance. Council approved the use of those funds today.

The grant funding is intended to support efforts to make more long-term housing units available in Canada and include the planning, implementation, enhancement, and review of short-term rental enforcement and compliance measures as well as increasing short-term rental enforcement and compliance capacity.

Council also:

  1. Discussed the Rotary Club of Canmore's request from March for the Town of Canmore to participate in a process for the development of a trail from Canmore to Cochrane and confirmed the Town's willingness to participate.
