UAV, Drones, and Quadcopters
UAV operation must be done in a safe manner and follow all Federal Aviation Regulations. Before considering operation please visit the Transport Canada Drone Safety site by clicking here. The regulation of drone use is especially important as the Town of Canmore has a vast area of restricted airspace over much of the community since there are two heliports within the town boundary. View the Drone Exclusion Zone map and heliport locations.
UAVs may not be operated in public parks as stated in 7.1 (e) of the Town of Canmore Parks Bylaw (3.66 MB). The fine is $500.00.
UAV Film Permits
Filming through the use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV or drone) requires special permissions from the Town of Canmore. If you would like to film (still or motion) from a UAV/drone within town for professional or commercial purposes, you require a UAV film permit. This is only required if taking off, launching or landing from a public space. If you are uncertain, please contact us.
