Celebrating Senior's Week (First Week of June)

Alberta Seniors' Week is a great opportunity to celebrate all of the contributions that Seniors make to the social fabric of our community and to provide information about the services available to seniors.

Volunteer Driver Program

On a cost-recovery basis, this program provides transportation for seniors and persons with disabilities to medical appointments in Calgary or Banff.  Others requiring rides for medical purposes will be accommodated as resources allow.

Meals on Wheels

On a cost recovery basis, meals are delivered by volunteers to people in their homes that are unable to prepare meals for themselves.

Taxi Pass Program

Low-income seniors or persons with disabilities receive 8 taxi vouchers per month to assist them in connecting with the community.

Snow Angels

Volunteers maintain snow removal for low income seniors and people that are unable to maintain their own snow for medical reasons.

Volunteer Income Tax Preparation

Volunteer Income Tax Preparation – People with low income can have their taxes completed by trained volunteers.

Pen Pal Program

Grade 4 students at LGMS are paired up with a senior in the community and they write one another letters throughout the school year. To start off this program in the fall, pen pals meet and have the chance to get to know one another by baking cookies and playing board games.

Cycling Without Age

Volunteers take seniors with limited mobility for rides in a rickshaw style bicycle. The seniors are then able to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and fresh air, and feel more connected to the community. Call 403.678.7136 for more information or visit the Cycling without age web page

Specialized Garbage Program

Curbside garbage/recycling/organics collection for individuals who due to mobility, cannot access the bear-proof bins in their neighbourhood.  Application through FCSS – acceptance to program through Solid Waste Services based on availability.

Helping Hands Volunteer Program

Volunteers are available to help with small tasks inside and outside of Senior’s homes. Senior’s must complete a qualifying application to participate in the program. Typical tasks are light-bulb changes, Smoke detector battery replacement, and light yard work.
