June is Recreation and Parks Month!

The Alberta Recreation and Parks Association recognizes June as Recreation and Parks Month. To help celebrate the spirit of play and to encourage residents to get out and enjoy our facilities, the Town of Canmore has planned a series of FREE outdoor activities throughout the month of June! Come join us and experience all the benefits and recreation and parks have to offer!

Please note that space may be limited, and activities are first come, first served unless otherwise noted.

All activities will run weather permitting.

All participants need to have sign a Town of Canmore Adult Release of Liability waiver prior to the event. You can find the waiver online here

June 4 2 - 3 p.m. 

Yoga in Riverside Park

Breathe in the fresh mountain air as you move through a gentle flow yoga practice, followed by longer stretches, and a short meditation practice. This class is suitable for every body and all levels, so please come join us and enjoy the stress-relieving benefits of being outdoors in nature.

June 12 10 - 11 a.m. 

Adult Playground

Join Kiley from the Primary Care Network (PCN) for a guided session on how to get the most out of your time at the fitness park. Demonstrations will be provided to show proper form and technique as well as how to set up an effective outdoor workout routine.

Location: Centennial Park, Adult Playground

Try Tennis (for Adults)

Have you always wanted to try tennis? Join us for this introduction to the game. We’ll be using slower balls and a smaller court to make learning easy and fun.

Location: Veterans Park

June 21 7 - 8 p.m.  Try Tennis (for Adults)

June 24 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., and 12 - 2 p.m. 

Try Pickelball

During this Try It Pickle Ball session you will be introduced to the basic skills, rules, and etiquette of the game.  At the end of the 2-hour session you will be able to play the game with your friends and family.

Come prepared with appropriate outdoor court shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

Location: Larch rink

June 25 10 - 11 a.m. 

Bodyweight and Mobility at the Park

You’ll want to incorporate this workout during a walk along the river trail, while your little ones are at the playground or in your own backyard. No need for specific fitness equipment. Sandy will guide you through a great workout adapted to your ability. We will exercise through all planes of motion with a full range of motion. Guaranteed this class will make you feel great!

Adult Drop-In Recreational Sports

Get that heart rate up, stay active this winter, and make new friends in the community! We are happy to offer drop-in sports for adults from Oct. 17 to Dec. 23 and Jan. 9 to May 19. These programs (soccer, volleyball, and badminton) are designed for adults 16 years and over and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Location: Lawrence Grassi Middle School Gymnasium 
Fee: $5 (equipment included)
