Utility Rate Increases Announcement
The following utility rate increases are in effect starting January 1st, 2010:

Water & Waste Water Rates 8% Increase
Solid Waste Rates 5% Increase
Recycling Rates 3% Increase

Why are rate increases required?
In order to ensure the utility remains self-sustaining, it is important that revenue from utility rates keeps pace with expenses, which increase with the rate of inflation each year.
Rate increases are also necessary to ensure that adequate capital reserves are available to fund major capital initiatives such as expansions to water, waste water and solid waste services infrastructure.

How much more will the average household pay?
The average residential bill for water, wastewater, solid waste and recycling services will increase by approximately $5.19 per month or $10.38 per bi-monthly billing period. (Based on an average monthly water consumption of 20 cubic meters).

Customers receiving a bill from December 1st, 2009 to January 31st, 2010:
The charges are split in order to reflect the December 2009 billing at the old rates and the January 2010 billing at the new rates.
