Located in the heart of Canmore on 7th Avenue, the Civic Centre serves as a forum for social interaction and political debate. The Mayor’s Office, Council Chambers, and the Chief Executive Officer’s Office, along with several other Town departments are all housed in the Civic Centre. The Civic Centre is open to the public from 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday except Civic Holidays.
Designed as a sustainable building, a Silver LEEDTM accreditation was awarded to Canmore’s Civic Centre. It was the first of it’s kind in Alberta and only the fourth in all of Canada. Design features include carpool parking, indoor bike storage for employees, shower facilities, low flow water fixtures and appliances, highly efficient HVAC system, solar control of window areas, maintained high air quality, high efficiency hand dryers instead of paper towels, numerous recycling bins, and natural lighting in every work space.
The Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre (www.cmags.org) is also housed in the Civic Centre. The integration of the museum allows for the daily presentation of basic elements of Canmore’s history. It also allows our community to share in visual reminders of our origins and stimulate discussion about our future.
Canmore’s Civic Centre is one of four Town facilities that Municipal services are coordinated and operate from. The others are the Recreation Centre, Fire Hall, and Public Works building).
