In order to be leaders in community sustainability, the Town of Canmore recognizes that we must support visionary leadership.  At the same time, we must engage the community in leadership and governance in a variety of ways, ensuring that we create opportunities for everyone in our community to participate.

The Mining the Future community vision for Canmore defines Civic Leadership by stating, “We note the community’s history of strong citizen engagement in important civic issues. The future we envision builds on that engagement, with an expanded voice for citizens in making key decisions. A variety of new forums that support meaningful community dialogue, information sharing, and informed deliberation will be required to make decisions that are consistent with the Vision. Continued and expanded citizen engagement will require visionary leadership from both our elected officials and our individual residents.”
