Municipal Sustainability

Sustainability means meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. At the Town of Canmore, this means that as a community we must think about our social, economic and environmental activities in ways that we never have before. This requires true leadership, collaboration, creative thinking, possibly some risk taking, and a whole lot of hard work.

We’ve divided our sustainability efforts and initiatives into four areas –

  • Civic Leadership
  • Economic
  • Environmental
  • Social

To try to keep it simple, we’ve put things into one primary category. Please do keep in mind that much of what we do fits into more than one category and sometimes encompasses them all.

The road to sustainability is not an easy one. The Town of Canmore recognizes that we will get much further by working together than we will alone. We strive to work with a variety of different people, groups, businesses, and industries in our community. This approach benefits the entire community of Canmore. We hope you’ll join us.
