During late spring, summer, and early fall, the Town has a flower barrel program running in the downtown core. The purpose of the flower barrels is to add high visual impact to the downtown core making it a more attractive destination for both guests and residents. With this in mind, the flower barrels require a very high level of maintenance, ranging from daily watering and fertilization activities, to weekly deadheading activities.
The planting beds and mulch beds activities within the Horticulture Program are far less labour intensive, and are designed to utilize natural vegetation which requires low level maintenance but provides an attractive and clean visual impact.
Tree pruning is scheduled seasonally and may also be required in hazardous situations along roadways and trails and at intersections. This activity is completed to improve line of site issues that directly impact the health and safety of our community.
The Parks Dept. Horticulture Program consists of the downtown flower barrels, numerous planting beds and mulch beds, and tree pruning.
