Every community, regardless of its size or location is vulnerable and can be easily disrupted by an emergency (severe storm, flood, forest or structural fire, chemical spill, or natural disaster). This can seriously affect the lives, economy and environment of its residents.

As a community we cannot foresee every type of emergency, but it is important to plan and prepare for as many scenarios as possible. Every resident should be prepared by posting emergency phone numbers prominently in their home, devising an emergency escape plan and preparing for an emergency survival kit.

The Town of Canmore‘s Municipal Emergency plan addresses a number of response measures in the event of a disaster. This plan is continually updated and outlines specific duties and functions in response to emergencies including that of Emergency Operations Centre personnel and key resources available to the municipality.
