Traffic, Street and Sidewalk Control Bylaw
The Town of Canmore’s Traffic, Street and Sidewalk Control Bylaw regulates traffic, parking, streets and sidewalks within the Town.  This page will provide you with a brief overview of the Town’s bylaw, however if you would like more detail, please refer to the actual Traffic, Street and Sidewalk Control Bylaw 17-1992.  Original copies of the bylaw are available by contacting the Municipal Clerk.

What is the law?
Obstruction
  • Do no place cords, hoses or any other obstructions across a sidewalk or street.
  • Do not dispose of anything into a sewer, manhole or catch basin.
  • Keep hedges, shrubs and trees trimmed so they do not overhang or interfere with pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
Parking
  • Vehicles parked on the street must be moved every 72 hours or they are considered to be abandoned and may be towed.
  • Do not leave a trailer unattached on a street.
  • Buses and vehicles weighing more than 4000Kg cannot park on any residential street.
  • Campers, motor homes and recreational vehicles cannot park on any street between 2:00 a.m and 6:00 a.m.
  • Vehicles leaking fluid onto the street may be towed away at the expense of the owner.
