Smoking Regulations

Smoking is regulated under the Provincial Tobacco Reduction Act and the Municipal Smoking Control Bylaw 19-2010. This page will provide an overview of these regulations, but please refer to the actual legislation for more detailed information. What is the law?

  • Smoking is prohibited in public places and workplaces in Alberta.
  • Smoking is prohibited within 5 meters of a doorway, window or air intake of public places in Alberta.
  • Smoking is prohibited in hotels, inns, guesthouses, hostels and bed and break fast facilities in Canmore*.
  • Managers of hotels must not permit smoking by guests in hotel rooms in Canmore.
