About the Vision Keepers

The Vision Keepers Group (VKG) is a group of Canmore residents charged with ensuring that the Vision for Canmore is reflected in the growth and development of the town of Canmore. Why do we have a Vision Keepers Group?

A major concern that was expressed by many of the participants in the 2005/06 Community Visioning exercise was the question of accountability. Who would be responsible for implementing the vision developed in the Mining the Future process?

As one way to keep the process of community dialogue moving ahead, the Mining the Future Final Consultant’s Report suggests the creation of an oversight group called the Vision Keepers. The “Vision Keepers" are responsible for ensuring that the vision remains a part of town planning and decision making into the future.

The Vision Keepers Group is an advisory body. They do not dictate policy decisions. Members of the group do not advocate any specific interest group or particular sector in the community. The Vision Keepers represent the interests of the larger community and provide strategic guidance and advice to Council regarding the development and growth of Canmore, consistent with the core values and guiding principles contained in Mining the Future.
