FESTIVAL OF EAGLES

October 17 & 18, 2014

Festival of Eagles celebrates the spirit and presence of the Golden Eagle and its autumn migration over the Community of Canmore in the Canadian Rockies. While the Golden Eagles soar thousands of feet above Canmore our community celebrates nature, motion and our connection to the environment through fun and interactive events.

On their self-powered journey, migrating animals face enormous challenges at the mercy of Mother Nature. Human powered adventurers, Julie and Colin Angus, have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean, circled the world by human power and descended some of the wildest and most remote rivers. Their dynamic and evocative presentation brings to life their unique adventures and encounters with migrating animals.

Colin and Julie Angus jointly received the 2007 Adventurer of Year Award from National Geographic Adventure.

Colin Angus
On May 20th 2006, Colin Angus rode his bicycle into Vancouver BC completing the first circumnavigation of planet earth exclusively by human power. This two-year, 43,000 km journey was hailed as “one of the last great challenges remaining.” He completed the first descent of world’s mightiest river, the Amazon, by raft, followed by the first descent of Mongolia’s Yenisey River. A national best-selling author, Colin has penned four books and co-produced four films which have won numerous awards.

Julie Angus
Julie is the first woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean from mainland to mainland. During the worst hurricane season in history, she spent 5 months rowing 10,000 km from Portugal to Costa Rica. Julie is a molecular biologist, adventurer, writer, and filmmaker. After a decade of studying and developing treatments for heart disease and genetic ailments she now focuses on examining the natural world and she has explored over 30 countries, mostly by bicycle, rowboat and foot.
