TRAPPER'S BALL

This event kicks off the Canmore Winter Carnival with a fantastic party! It's a new twist on an old favorite - miners, trappers, saloon girls and society women - dress the part and shake out the cabin fever at the Trapper's Costume Ball. Live entertainment, log sawing competition, silent auction, great party food, hairy men & prizes for best costume - all happening at the Iron Goat Pub & Grill - a great way to beat the winter blahs. CANMORE WINTER CARNIVAL EXPLORER SCAVENGER HUNT: 11:30AM TO 1:30PM

Like a scavenger hunt but much, much more, Explorer Scavenger Hunts get your team hunting for historic items, collecting objects, uncovering secrets and participating in a few crazy team events. It is themed to Canmore’s unique and colourful history. Test locals’ knowledge! Teams will be exploring the downtown core area mostly between Railway Avenue and the Bow River. The event will be done entirely on foot. This program includes 3 activities during the event such as Junkyard Dog sledding, snowshoe obstacle course and Giant Ski course (Subject to change). Great prizes!
Min 4 teams, Max 10 teams, 4 members per team
Open to public and local businesses. Participants must be 12 years old or older (requires at least one adult in each team). Participants need only be in reasonable physical condition and should be prepared for being outdoors for much of the time. Free of Charge. The most popular family event of the Winter Carnival is held on Policeman's Creek pond - the Kid n' Mutt races! Remember it's BYOM - "Bring Your Own Mutt". This event is a howling good time for kids and their families and a great event to watch.

VIESSMANN WORLD CUP FIS CROSS-COUNTRY EVENT


The world's best cross-country skiers will be returning to Canmore, Alberta in 2010! The Viessmann World Cup FIS Cross-Country event will run February 4-7, 2010 at the picturesque Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park and will feature the final international races prior to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Don't miss the action as Canada's Olympic team makes its final preparations against a star-studded field of 200+ athletes from over 25 nations.  Schedule subject to change.

ELEVATION GALLERY PRESENTS "EXPOSURE" - a festival of photography with two established Canadian artists, Sarah Fuller and Stev'nn Hall.

Sarah will be presenting a project shot in Iceland and sponsored by Canada Council.  Stev'nn is quite distinctive in his use of oil and resin on his photos, resulting in nostalgic haunting pieces that record his memories of childhood as seen through the car windshield.  These shows both open on Saturday, Feb. 6....the launch date for 6 exhibitions in Canmore.  This would be a great day for an artwalk! Everyone is invited to participate in Canmore's annual ice carving event. Turn blocks of ice into amazing sculptures. Entry fee is $20 for two 40"x20"x9" blocks of ice - additional blocks available upon request. Bring your own files and chisels and any other equipment you may need to satisfy your creative side. Great prizes! We just need to know if you're coming so we can get you a block of ice for your masterpiece. Click for Registration Form Registration deadline January 29.

KIDS LEARN TO CARVE DROP-IN: 9:00AM TO 4:00PM


Kids will have the opportunity to try their hand at ice carving in the free drop-in activity. No need to pre-register.

The January 31st top four finishes in each age category will go to finals on Saturday, February 6th, 2pm. Sled dog Media Challenge and Mayor's Sled Dog Challenge, all award presentations including World Cup presentations, to follow at 4pm.


MAYOR'S and MEDIA SLED DOG CHALLENGE: 3:00 TO 4:00PM

 Real sleds, eight sled dogs, one winner, bragging rights for a year. The races take place on a two lane snow-packed track - there will be four racers - winner from each heat will race off - winner takes all.
