Canmore Winter Carnival

February 10 - 20, 2012

Winter Carnival, a celebration of the season and a popular community event in Canmore. This year, the Town of Canmore has partnered with the Best of Canmore, Canmore Downtown Business Association and the Canmore Nordic Centre to expand this exciting community event and to welcome participants of the 2012 International Biathlon Union Cup races being held at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

Location: Begins at Friendship Park, moves down Main Street and concludes at the Canmore Civic Centre Plaza.

8:00 - 9:00 Morning Rush Hour - An early morning commute!
Don't run to the gym this morning, strap on your skis and be the first to take a turn on the fresh and track set snow on Main Street. Bring your own equipment and commute to work!

Lawrence Grassi Middle School and Canmore Nordic Ski Club will "Attack the Track" its students. They will participate in fun races, snowshoeing and much more.

12:00 - 1:30 Public Use Time
Everyone is welcome to enjoy the use of the track

Exshaw School grade 7/8 classes will Cross Country Ski on Main Street

1:30 - 2:30 School Programming
Elizabeth Rummel School will be holding class on the track with four Grade 4 classes.

3:00 - 6:00 Biathlon Alberta Demonstration Trailer on site - a hands-on opportunity to test your skills.

4:00 - 5:00 "Track Attack" - Presented by the Canmore Nordic Ski Club
Jackrabbits and Biathlon Bears fun races.

5:00 - 5:45 Athletes Parade and Welcoming Ceremonies - Hosted by the Town of Canmore
Athletes will parade down Main Street to the Civic Centre where Welcoming Ceremonies will be held.

1:30 – 2:30 Paintbox Lodge Marshmallow Roast
Join the Paintbox Lodge and celebrate skiing and winter with Hot Chocolate, Vastu Chai and a marshmallow roast.

2:00 - 4:00 2nd Annual Xterra Winter Triathlon - Full track - Presented by Smith Events
Watch the exciting last leg of the Triathlon, athletes will swim, run and then finish by skiing on Main St.

4:00 - 5:00 Giant Ski Race - ½ Track - Presented by White Mountain Adventures
Head to head fun competition featuring 4 skiers on one giant set of skis

5:30 - 7:30 Block Party - 7th Ave/Civic Centre Plaza
Ski on the track, enjoy live music while warming up by a blazing fire pit and enjoy a free hot dog/hot chocolate from Canmorealberta.com or take a Hay Ride.

6:00 - 7:00 Meet Canada's Team! 7th Ave/Civic Centre Plaza - Hosted by Biathlon Alberta
Canada's National Biathlon Team Members will be introduced and will be available to sign autographs!

4:30 - 9:00 Public Use Time with free equipment provided by Trail Sports
