Winter Carnival

January 31 - February 23, 2014

Winter Carnival celebrates winter, snow and all the great activities of the season. A popular community event in Canmore it spans over several days where you can enjoy Kid 'n' Mutt Races, Log Sawing, Ice Carving, Snow Sculpting, Curling on the Pond, Bonhomme Carnival and many other indoor and outdoor events.

This year the Winter Carnival coincides with the Alberta Winter Games and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Fun! The Canmore Civic Centre Plaza will transform into an Athlete’s Village featuring food vendors, activities and a giant TV screen broadcasting the Olympics. For a full schedule of events visit





Lantern Parade & Kid's Art Exhibition Opening Reception - Friday, January 31
Showcase your lantern and join the parade to kick off Winter Carnival.

Civic Centre Plaza - 902 7th Avenue
5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Bring your lantern and meet us at Canmore Civic Centre to embark on a fun walk.The parade will end at the Three Sisters Gallery (2nd floor of Elevation Place) for the opening of the Kids’ Art Exhibition.


Snowy Owl Kid 'n' Mutt Races - Saturday, February 8

Real dog sleds, real sled dogs. Race down Main Street!

Ski Tracks on Main Street
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
$ 5 per child (5 – 12 years old). Limited space, advance registration required. - FULL

Kid ‘n’ Mutt registration will open on Friday, January 24 at 8:30 a.m. Registration will be on a first come first served basis. All participants must fill out a form, waiver and cover the $5 cash entry fee. Forms will be available on Friday, January 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Enrichment office located in the Civic Centre.


10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Join us at the ski tracks on Main Street and meet the Snowy Owl team.
11a.m. – 12 noon Race: Media and Mayor's challenge
12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m Race: Kids Preliminary
3:30 p.m. – 4:30pm Race: Kids Finals
4:30 p.m. Awards
